Over the last ten years, I have worked extensively in sound for the conference and exhibition sectors, on everything from awards dinners and conferences to the most complex live and multimedia shows.
Sometimes, I act as sound designer, designing a sound system that suits both the project and the budget, liaising with client and producer, and running the sound team on site.
Other times, I work as part of a team of engineers managed by someone else. Very often I will be the sound engineer on the mixing desk, where I enjoy the pressure of having to work quickly, and getting it right first time, every time!
Clients in the last ten years have included The Ford Motor Group, Renault, The London Development Authority, Coca-Cola, IBM, the CBI, France Telecom, The Orange Awards and The Perrier Award Ceremony, among many others.
I also work extensively as a sound effects programmer for corporate events and exhibitions: please click here for more information.
I have many years of experience in choosing and editing sound effects for theatre. Since the late 1990s I have also used this experience to programme sound effects and music for exhibitions, conferences, and large-scale corporate events.
I am an experienced audio editor, MIDI engineer and audio system programmer.I'm familiar with ProTools, Reason, SFX, Q-Lab, Spectrafoo, CSC, SCS, LCS, Yamaha and Digidesign digital desks, all the normal stuff!
I still remember how to programme a range of now obsolete technologies: Vision, G-Type, Akai samplers, Showtime and Cricket, among others. I also still remember how to edit 1/4" tape!
I have a personal library of many thousands of sound effects, and comprehensive editing and mixing facilities.
Here are just a few of the many corporate productions and exhibitions for which I have programmed sound effects:
| Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets | Warner Brothers & Imagination World DVD Launch. I programmed hundreds of 3-dimensional sound effects for a huge themed party with the haunted wood as a centre-piece, and for the reveal of the flying Ford Anglia car. |
| Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Askaban | Warner Brothers & Imagination World DVD launch. This time the show was even bigger, with even more of my sound effects! Ghostly horses flew around Hogwarts School Hall, and the Knight Bus was revealed complete with its own complex soundscape. |
| Brand relaunch – Unilever & Trade Secrets | Staff from Unilever's frozen foods division turned a disused Victorian swimming pool into a sunny, grassy bank. My sound effects programming enhanced the unusual atmosphere. |
| Thunderbirds – Warner Brothers | Live action show at NEC Motor Show to celebrate the opening of the film. Apparently it was the largest and most complex exhibition stand in the world! I programmed thousands of surround effects, and tried to make the battles as loud as the real explosions. |
| Talk & Journey Zones, Millenium Dome – British Telecom & Ford Motor Company | I was audio programmer for all the sound effects montages in the both Zones, and for the completely automated main live show in the Talk Zone, which at the time was ground-breaking. |
